150 Health Projects Put Into Operation in MUMS Coverage Areas

Referring to the trilateral memorandum of understanding signed last year for expansion of healthcare infrastructure in university’s coverage areas, Vice President for Management and Resources Development of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences said, “150 projects have since been put into operation under this memorandum of understanding.”

“230 health projects including rural healthcare posts, comprehensive urban and rural health service centers, urban health centers, physician home offices and midwifery facilities should be constructed in coverage areas of the university under this memorandum of understanding. We will try to complete the remaining projects as well in six months, if required funds, amounting to 270 billion Rials, are allocated,” added Dr. Bahreyni at inauguration ceremony of 160 construction, service, healthcare, medical and cultural projects of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences, attended by Minister of Health and Medical Education, Governor of Razavi Khorasan, and a number of provincial and national officials.

He continued, “Crisis Management Project is one of these projects constructed in an area of 2,600 square meters in Zakaria region. Considering the strategic position of Mashhad, having such a center was a necessity. Shahid Hasheminejad Hospital project is also under construction and had only 5 percent progress since 2011 until June this year. With follow-up and support of Ministry of Health, its construction was entrusted to Mashhad University of Medical Sciences at June and has since had a 40 percent progress. This project is being built in an area of 36,000 square meters and with 320 beds, at an anticipated cost of 700 billion Rials, and will be put into operation next year if required funding is allotted.”

Referring to the hoteling project of Ghaem Hospital he said, “Rehabilitation and reconstruction of 10 wards has finished under this project, and the work is underway for another 6. With the steps taken, I can safely say that we will no longer see patient beds in the corridors of Ghaem Hospital.”

He then referred to the emergency department of Ghaem Hospital, saying, “This project was started in 2010 with 160 beds planned, and was scheduled to finish by the end of 2019, but has so far had only 15 percent progress. With the support and follow-up of Ministry of Health, completing this project will also be assigned to the university. Since 220 beds were added to the repository of Ghaem Hospital, this project is planned to be used as a centralized emergency department and parking lot for the hospital.”

“Reconstruction and rehabilitation of 24 wards of Ebn-e Sina Psychiatry Center was also put on the agenda under the hoteling program, with a 50 percent progress so far, and we will complete the remainder if funding is provided,” he added.

Dr. Bahreyni said, “The School of Dentistry has seen no physical development in the last 50 years, so a 5,500 m2 expansion of its space was planned. When completed, this project will add 130 dental units and double the capacity of School of Dentistry.”

He finally referred to the planned projects of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences and said, ”Zakaria 1,000-bed Hospital, 540-bed Hospital in eastern Mashhad, the Research Institute building, and a multi-purpose educational complex are some of the projects which will be constructed if we receive funding.”
