Definition of traditional medicine
In 1978 the World Health Organization issued a statement regarding the development of traditional medicine. Traditional medicine is defined briefly in this statement: Set all the theoretical sciences and science in medical diagnosis, prevention and treatment of physical illness, mental or social disorder, and are transferred as a verbal or written statement from generation to generation. Traditional medicine has been defined in more detail by the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2002: Traditional medicine is a general term that refers to traditional medicine systems such as traditional Chinese medicine, Ayurveda medicine in India and the Greek - Arabic and various forms of indigenous medicine. Traditional treatments include drug therapy (the use of medicinal plants, animal and mineral components) and non-pharmacological methods (such as acupuncture, massage and psychological treatment).
In countries where medical services in their system is based on modern medicine, instead of traditional medicine, terms of CAM therapies, non-conventional or alternative medicine are used.
Iranian traditional medicine:
Iranian traditional medicine, is a full and dynamic school (Maktab). Roots of Iranian traditional medicine school is believed to be over 3000 years ago.
