Introduction to Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing (Twenty-sixth session adopted Planning Medical Council dated 23/3/82)
Chapter I
Overall Program
1. Name and definition: Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing
Doctor of Philosophy major in nursing is the highest level of study in this field. Graduates of this major can be as faculty members in universities, educational and research centers.
2. History:
We had almost a century of nursing and about 40 years of modern nursing. Vigor strengthen scientific, practical and structure of nursing as a scientific branch and professional medical groups will be necessary. This constant upgrading and expansion of the forces and specialized training in this field, especially nursing Ph.D. program is possible.
History of Ph.D. in Nursing was considered for the first time in one hundred and third meeting of the Council of Higher Education dated 1975. The University of Tabriz accepted 3 Ph.D. students for the first time in 1995. Then, respectively, Tarbiat Modarres University in 1996 accepted four students, Medical University of Tehran in 1998 accepted 2 students, Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences in 2002 accepted 2 students, and finally Medical University of Isfahan in 2003 with 2 student admission, Ph.D. course nursing were started. Therefore, the number of licensed University for Ph.D. students in nursing education are: Tabriz, Tarbiat Modarres University, Iran, Tehran, Isfahan, and Shahid Beheshti.
3. Values:
Health nurse is working with body and the human spirit . Every person has a unique characteristics of physical, psychological, social, and ethical . A nurse based on Islamic values is governing the system of society, human rights obligations, and social justice. He should do research, applied qualitative and comprehensive approach to strengthen theoretical study and community oriented thinking and create continuing education and interaction with other branches of knowledge (interdisciplinary perspective) PhD courses. This will increase motivation in nursing services.
4. Mission:
Promote knowledge and skills of professional nursing service agents and thus promote national standards of health, enrichment permanent faculty members, production of science, technology transfer, increased interaction in scientific national and international level, creating dynamic and excitable spirit Scientific and faster method , the major mission is established doctoral.
5. Vision:
Promote knowledge and skills of professional nursing service agents will improve national health standards . Permanent enrichment of faculty members, production of science, technology transfer, increased interaction in scientific national and international level, creating dynamic Sciene, is the major mission in established doctoral.
6. Aims:
The general education program objectives Ph.D. nursing include:

Training teachers with educational and research competence

provide the required human resources for universities

to achieve professional independency.
7. Graduate role in the educational program (Role definition):
Graduates of this course, will be able to decrease qualitative and quantitative deficiency of human resources, and will be able to plan training courses and manage the research and education, nursing services and management activities. The graduates will be able to provide appropriate solutions to professional analysis.

10. Admission requirements:
Having a Masters of professional management training or nursing services or related field and trends and other conditions in order to enter the Ph.D. course.

11. The countries that have similar opportunities in nursing include: India, USA, UK, Thailand, Canada, Sweden, Australia, Finland, Egypt, Philippines and South American countries.
12. Other matters (such as scholarship):
Deployed abroad scholarship are based on need and according to the Ministry respective laws.
Chapter II
Course: Ph.D. course in nursing
Course name: Nursing Course: Ph.D. Course name and number of credit courses: Total educational and research units during the Ph.D. nursing unit is 45
Course Length: conforming with standards PhD course. This course has two stages:
1 - Educational period 2 - Research period
Educational period:
The total number of units for learning stage of Nursing Ph.D. is 25 units and it's format is the table B. In addition, the student is required upon the Department Graduate Committee University Course decision to pass a 2 unit deficiency class also.
Research period:
No. of units in research period are 20 by thesis and is based on special needs of society.

Note: Although the Ph.D. Courses mostly are practical and workshops but students participation in research methodology workshop (5 days) is mandatory.
Research phase: Thesis of 20 units should focus on nursing care problems in the community and student interest. |
