Dr. Amir Hossein Sahebkar added: in this research project a herbal compound called curcumin is the active ingredient of turmeric plants to improve the effectiveness of chemical skin injuries caused by mustard gas toxicity.
Doctoral student in Pharmaceutical Biotechnology, School of Pharmacy, Mashhad University of Medical Sciences pointed out: One of the major complications of mustard gas poisoning in addition to eye and lung problems is skin complications. This complication is associated with intense itching of the skin and has undesirable effects on the quality of social, career and family life.
Dr. Amir Hossein Sahebkar added: This product is made orally in clinical trials and results are effective in reducing symptoms and itchy skin of chemical injuries. In blood samples from patients, levels serum antioxidant were increased and inflammatory markers were dropped.
This initiative is published in The Journal of Nutrition in Great Britain, one of the internationally recognized journal in 2011. This product is very suitable alternative for the production of corticosteroid medication that has adverse effects on health.
In response to planning for industrial products: Various stages of research for the production of drug should be spent like cell research, toxicity and efficacy in animal models and human.
Extensive studies are done on curcumin in the world. This medicine with healthy ingredients has very low side effects and is not comparable to chemical drugs. With the support of the Authorities this product will be mass produced and will be available to patients.
Dr. sahebkar added: Curcumin has favorable effect on the treatment of cardiovascular diseases, Alzheimer, Parkinson, rheumatoid arthritis.
