Report on the Opening of the International Congress of Nutrition: From Basic Sciences to Clinical Studies
With the presence of well-known national and international experts, the first International Congress of Nutrition: From Basic Sciences to Clinical Studies hosted by Mashhad University of Medical Sciences began on September 6.
According to the news agency of the International Congress of Nutrition, at the opening ceremony of the congress, Dr. Mostafa Mehrabi Bahar, head of the congress and head of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences, expressed his pleasure in hosting the congress and said: "The presence of colleagues and nutritionists at this great conference and providing the latest research and scientific findings shows clear horizons towards improving the nutritional condition of the world in the future.”
He noted: “Holding this congress is a great opportunity to share the latest achievements in the science of nutrition in three days with the presence of nutrition and health experts, and by presenting scientific discussions to strengthen the link between basic sciences, human nutrition, health and food industry, we hope to take a step towards improving people’s health.”
General Secretariat of the International Congress of Nutrition also said: “The plan to hold this international congress began in 2013, with the collaboration of Professor Angelo Azzi, and Mashhad was chosen to hold this scientific event.”
Dr. Majid Ghayour Mobarhan pointed out: “The congress is attended by experts from countries such as France, Malaysia, Italy, Egypt, Switzerland, the United States, Britain, Austria, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Armenia, and during the congress is being held, it is attempting to achieve favorable solutions to improve nutritional status.”
Faculty Member of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences noted that the symposium on nutritional issues in held on four topics, including NICs, non-nervous diseases in nutrition, nutrition problems in Iran, and nutrition networks in Iran are among other notable programs at the Congress.
The Nutrition Science Society in Mashhad, an opportunity to improve nutritional condition
At this ceremony, professor of Tufts University: “The presence of well-known experts from different countries in Mashhad has provided an opportunity of achieving solutions to improve nutrition in different parts of the world.”
Professor Angelo Azzi pointed that the idea of establishing this congress had been formed about three to four years ago, and given the measures taken, efforts are made to maintain these results for years.
He referred to proposing the establishment of the UNESCO International Institute in Mashhad University of Medical Sciences as one of the key points of the congress and expressed his hope that this would be achieved.
Dr. Angelo Azzi emphasized: “Holding this congress is a major nutrition science event and can definitely play an important role in building a network of experts in the Middle East and South of Africa to improve nutritional conditions.”
Upon approval of the UNESCO, the UNESCO Center for Nutrition Sciences will be established in Mashhad.
UNESCO representative, Ahmed Fahmi, also presented a report on the activities of UNESCO and described active centers in different parts of the world.
Referring to the fact that UNESCO was formed with the aim of bringing back world’s peace, said: “UNESCO has 70 years of experience, now with 195 members and works in various fields such as education, culture and science.”
Ahmed Fahmi, pointing out that UNESCO is operating based on international collaboration in various fields, said: “Currently, 50 UNESCO centers have been established in different countries, four of which are located in Iran, and are active in the fields of water resources, earth, etc.”
He stated that the main reason for the presence of UNESCO representatives at the congress is the establishment of a UNESCO Center in Mashhad University of Medical Sciences and said: “Mashhad University of Medical Sciences was interested in establishing a UNESCO Center, the required documents were completed and during a visit which is going to be in the October, final result will be announced.”
Ahmed Fahmi stated: "This center is under supervision of UNESCO in the fields of basic science and public health.”
He mentioned UNESCO centers as effective in moving towards goals and improvement of the community.
The UNESCO Center in Mashhad is pursuing educational programs
Dr. Tiziano Peccia, another representative of UNESCO in Asia, mentioned that the goal of the organization's activities in Asia-Pacific is to create international collaboration towards the interests of the public, and said: “Economic progress alone is not important and investments should be made on people along with economics.”
He mentioned the plans of UNESCO in Asian countries and said: “Since 2015, in cooperation with the Institute of African Studies, several programs have been put in place to eliminate the gap between researchers and people, and in this regard, learners from all over the world are also trained.”
Referring to the plans of UNESCO Center in Mashhad, he said, "This center will be established with the aim of expanding biotechnology training programs and will ultimately promote the community’s health as well as promoting economic benefits."
Referring to the words of Iran’s President, Dr. Rouhani, representative of the UNESCO in Asia stated: "A global connection with the world in all fields is essential and should be pursued."
