Biostatistics

Description
Biostatistics (a contraction of biology and statistics; sometimes referred to as biometry or biometrics) is the application of statistics to a wide range of topics in biology. The science of biostatistics encompasses the design of biological experiments, especially in medicine and agriculture; the collection, summarization, and analysis of data from those experiments; and the interpretation of, and inference from, the results.
Introduction to Biostatistics provides an introduction to selected important topics in biostatistician concepts and reasoning. It represents an introduction to the field and provides a survey of data and data types. Specific topics include tools for describing central tendency and variability in data; methods for performing inference on population means and proportions via sample data; statistical hypothesis testing and its application to group comparisons; issues of power and sample size in study designs; and random sample and other study types. While there are some formulae and computational elements to the course, the emphasis is on interpretation and concepts.
Public Health Degree in Biostatistics is a professional degree that prepares students for careers in the application of statistical methods to the design and analysis of studies in Public Health. The statistics portion of this program includes courses on both the theory and applications of biostatistics.
