 Food and Drug Administration responsibilities are as follows:

1. Supervision and announced regulations on established production centers, distribution and maintenance of pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and health food.

2. Review and adjust records associated with the criteria established manufacturing and distribution centers, Pharmaceutical, Food and Cosmetics, send it to the relevant units at Headquarters department and plans to address the legal issue in the Commission.

3. Supervision and regulations relating to safety announcement effects package labeling and advertising of food products, beverages and Cosmetics.

4. Review procedures in maintaining and improving the supply and sale of pharmaceutical products, beverage and health and supervising affairs.

5. Collection and storage and review information, statistics and documents regarding pharmaceutical products, eating, drinking and Cosmetics.

6. Monitor implementation of detailed regulations on product manufacturers and standards set for auxiliary additives and dyes used authorized material control and continuous packaging products in terms of qualitative and quantitative qualifications.

7. Monitor the implementation of regulations on food control laboratory medicine and health.

8. Oversee production and distribution Method Pharmaceutical Enterprises, eating, drinking, cosmetics and health at the provincial level.

9. Pharmaceutical Supervision Province pharmacies.

10. Control and evaluation activities of pharmaceutical laboratories, food and health in the province.

11. Drug inventory control, according to the need of care units.

12. Inventory and monitoring of drug application and the technical supervision on drug use.

13. How to monitor and maintain certain drugs and addictive substances affairs and good performance.

14. Monitoring of drug use statistics collected over the years, to review regional and public diseases. Report to the research groups to investigate the causes of outbreaks associated with the necessary prevention.

The school started out with 61 students, one associate professor and seven tutors. In 1956, when the school of Arts opened, the two schools merged to form the University of Mashhad. In 1989, the faculties offering Medical Sciences' degrees across the country separated from the Ministry of Culture and Higher Education. New emerging Medical Universities have gone under management of Ministry of Health, Treatment and Medical Education. Thus the original University of Mashhad was divided into two independent universities: "Ferdowsi University of Mashhad" and "Mashhad University of Medical Sciences'. Mashhad University of Medical Sciences operates at present with 8 faculties, 32 hospitals, 179 rural and 147 urban health centers. It covers an enormous area stretching from the north east to the central parts of the country, which makes it the largest university of Medical Sciences providing health care and treatment services. With 597 teaching staff, 1645 MDs with different specialties, 138 dentists, 123 pharmacists and 25, 402 employees, the university provides health care and medical services to the area's large population as well as to over 25 million tourists a year.
