General requirements
  • No hostility to the Islamic Republic of Iran
  • No record of immoral behavior
  • No significant disability with regard to the field of study
  • (applicable to male students) No legal impediment for studying with respect to military service
  • A pass grade in the entrance exam
  • Giving a written undertaking to do post-graduation service based on the regulations of free higher education.
Specific requirements
Undergraduate Admission requirements
  • A certificate of completion of high school education (received in Iran or abroad) for two-year and (continuous) undergraduate programs.
  • An associate degree (a certificate of completion of a two-year higher education program) for discontinuous undergraduate programs
Graduate Admission requirements
  • A BSc degree for graduate programs
  • A certificate of completion of high school education (received in Iran or abroad) for the “professional medical program”
  • An MSc degree for PhD programs
  • General doctoral degrees for specialized programs
  • Specialized degrees for consultant posts
 
Foreign Applicants
Foreign students who pass the entrance examination or are introduced by the ministry of health, treatment and higher education can study in the state universities with or without tuition or as sponsored students receiving grants from the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Grading System
A student’s achievement in a course is evaluated in terms of their attendance in class, class performance and the results of mid-term and final tests. The final mark is decided by the tutor. The marks range between zero and twenty.
In general and basic science courses offered in two-year and undergraduate programs, the pass mark is 10, in doctoral and graduate courses, the pass mark is 12 and in PhD and specialization programs and super-specialization doctoral programs, the pass mark is 15.
Master’s Thesis and Doctoral
Dissertation
Writing a dissertation is the final requirement of graduate, professional doctoral, PhD and specialization programs. Each student is required to conduct a research project under the supervision of a supervisor and other consultants within a certain period of time, and the student is required to report the results of his research to the supervisor at any time set by the supervisor.
After the dissertation is completed by the student and its contents are confirmed by the supervisor and at least one other member of the consultant committee confirms in writing that it is scientifically acceptable, the dissertation is presented to a board of examiners. At the viva session, attended by the supervisor and at least three members of the board of examiners, the student presents a report of his research and defends it. At the end of the viva session, the board of examiners, considering the originality and accuracy of the dissertation, awards it with one of the following grades:
A: Pass
1. Excellent
2. Very good
3. Good
4. Acceptable
B. Fail
A Dissertation is evaluated by the votes of at least four members of the board of examiners. The grade of a pass mark is decided by the votes of at least three members of the board of examiners.
